A JFR Snapshot

J F Rutherford in a candid snapshot taken at a convention in 1922. Note that the license plate number looks like 144,000. With grateful thanks to the comment trail that pointed out that this vehicle number plate was featured in the convention report in the November 1, 1922, WT page 349.

  1. I've never seen that picture and I have an interest particularly in the 1922 Cedar Point Convention. Do you know where it was taken specifically?

  2. The back of the photograph has a hand-written note: Monday, September 11th, 1922. Brother Rutherford took first car to go on initial "service day" house to house preaching work.
The event is written up in the 1975 Yearbook, pages 132-133.

  3. Thank you for sharing the reference. What a privilege to have been out in service with Bro Rutherford during that historic convention.

  4. While I can not take credit for this find, the 1922 Nov 1 Watchtower, pg. 349 makes reference to this car with the license plate 144,000. It was in a report by Bro Richard Johnson.

  6. JFR was baptized the day Macmillan baptized 144 people:

Not long thereafter, in 1906, J. F. Rutherford symbolized his dedication to Jehovah God. Wrote Brother Macmillan: “I had the privilege of baptizing him at Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was one of 144 persons that I personally baptized in water that day. So when he became president of the Society, I was especially pleased.”
